Shannon Risacher-- Associate Professor of Radiology & Imaging Sciences
Dr. Risacher’s main research interest is in identifying biomarkers for early detection of Alzheimer’s disease pathology before clinical symptoms. Although she primarily evaluates neuroimaging measures from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron emission tomography (PET) techniques, her greater interest is in developing novel biomarkers, particularly in visual, olfactory, and other sensory measures as potential biomarkers of AD pathology in early stages of disease. Dr. Risacher is interested in studying the impact of co-morbid medical and lifestyle factors, including vascular diseases, medications, and diet and exercise, on risk for and neuroimaging biomarkers of dementia with an interest in identifying and evaluating genetic variations that are associated with AD pathology using biomarkers as endophenotypes.
Andy Saykin-- Director of Center for Neuroimaging and Indiana Alzheimer's Disease Research Center
Dr. Saykin trained in clinical neuropsychology at Hahnemann Medical College (now Drexel University) followed by post-doctoral experience at the University of Pennsylvania. In 2006, after serving on the faculty at Penn and then Dartmouth, he joined Indiana University as director of the IU Center for Neuroimaging. In 2013, he was appointed as director of the NIA-designated Indiana Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center. In 2014, co-founded the IU Network Science Institute (IUNI) where he continues to serve on the Scientific Council. His multidisciplinary expertise is in the areas of cognitive neuroscience, multimodal neuroimaging and human genetics.
